“Yes, Dr Gallop, it does matter. It is an issue,- said Dr Lachlan Dunjey, Senate candidate for the Christian Democratic Party, responding to the news item in The West Australian with Dr Gallop being quoted as saying that “same-sex marriages were not an issue”.
“Dr Gallop says that he personally does not support gay marriage but does not go far enough in supporting and defending the essential nature of this very special relationship as being a strong fundamental value system of our society,” Dr Dunjey added. “Marriage – the union between one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others – provides the best framework for raising children. That is why it is special, why it has lasted and why it should last.”
And Dr Dunjey reminded us that we have a responsibility to uphold such proven values. “They do matter,” he said.
