A Christian Voice – it’s Time!

2004 has seen a sea-change shift in Christian activity in the public square!

The Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) has become more and more active and influential under the very capable leadership of Brigadier Jim Wallace plus an active group of supporters across Australia.

In response to the threat to Marriage as being the God-ordained basis of a healthy society we have seen the formation of the National Marriage Coalition, the three founding groups being the ACL, the Fatherhood Foundation and the Australian Family Association.

Arising from this came the National Marriage Forum meeting in the Great Hall of Parliament House with over 1000 attendees wanting to add their voices to others to enshrine in law for marriage to be the union of one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others.  And, as we know, Nicola Roxon on behalf of the Labor Party pledged to pass the legislation when it came back into the Senate.  Also, the Senate Select Committee looking at this matter received over 15000 submissions in favour of the time-honoured and Christian definition of marriage – a very good response from people becoming aware of the threats to society.

Here in WA we now have a substantial move by the Christian Democratic Party (CDP) into the federal political arena.  We have a senate team of three being Dr Lachlan Dunjey, Mr Peter Watt (psychologist), and Dr Norman Gage (retired from Obstetrics and Gynaecology but now working in palliative care).  We also have candidates for all 15 lower house seats (House of Representatives).  With a theme that it is Time to Take a Stand on things that really matter – including the intrinsic value of all human life right through from fertilisation to life’s natural end – we want to rally all those with a Christian worldview to uphold the underlying Christian principles that have made Australia a great country.

You will know that Rev Fred Nile is running for Senate in NSW and we also have CDP candidates in Victoria and Tasmania.  There are also Christian candidates running for Senate with the Family First Party.

So, to the Glory of God, this has been a remarkable year.

It is time for a Christian voice.  It’s time to take a stand.
Lachlan Dunjey.  August 2004.
